چکیده

Abstract The sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Gennadius (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), is a broadly invasive pest of great economic significance to agricultural and horticultural systems in the world. contains more than 44 cryptic species, among which B. Middle East Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1) Mediterranean (MED) are most destructive, have spread many countries. Research on species increased dramatically China following introduction MEAM1 middle-late 1990s. Our report discussed significant advances over past two decades understand genetics China. We reviewed main findings including changes composition invasion characteristics tabaci, also summarizing factors that affect displacement dominant species. Finally, integrated management was discussed. hope this review can stimulate interest deepen understanding will lay foundation for further research field.

Combining reflective mulch and host plant resistance for sweetpotato whitefly (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) management in watermelon

A study was conducted to evaluate the use of reflective mulch and host plant resistance for the management of the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), in watermelon [Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus (Thunberg) Matsum & Nakai]. Whitefly abundance data were collected under both greenhouse (caged and uncaged) and field conditions. Consistently, a reflective mulc...

ECOLOGY AND POPULATION BIOLOGY Assessments of Fitness Effects by the Facultative Symbiont Rickettsia in the Sweetpotato Whitefly (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

The sweet potato whiteßy, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), harbors several bacterial symbionts, including the obligate primary symbiont Portiera aleyrodidarum and the facultative secondary symbionts Arsenophonus, Cardinium, Fritschea,Hamiltonella, Rickettsia, and Wolbachia. The roles of these symbionts are yet unknown. In this study, we tested for possible effects of one sym...

Reference Gene Selection for qRT-PCR Analysis in the Sweetpotato Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

BACKGROUND Accurate evaluation of gene expression requires normalization relative to the expression of reliable reference genes. Expression levels of "classical" reference genes can differ, however, across experimental conditions. Although quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) has been used extensively to decipher gene function in the sweetpotato whitefly Bemisia tabaci, a world-wide pest in man...

Ecology and management of the woolly whitefly (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), a new invasive citrus pest in Ethiopia.

Distribution and importance of woolly whitefly (Aleurothrixus floccosus) (Maskell) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), was studied in Ethiopia with an evaluation of treatments against it. Results showed that the pest is distributed in most citrus-growing parts of the country equally infesting all types of citrus crops. Only one pupal parasitoid, Amitus sp., was recorded at Melkaoba. During 2006-2007, eig...

Insecticidal Effects of Selected Soaps, Oils and Detergents on the Sweetpotato Whitefly: (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae)

Efficacy against the sweetpotato whitefly (SPWF) Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) of an insecticidal soap, two horticultural oils (one vegetable and the other petroleum based) and 15 detergents was evaluated under greenhouse conditions. Applications were directed to the underside of infested zucchini squash, tomato, or poinsettia leaves. Live nymphs were distinguished by their ability to deposit hone...
